Situated in the Firth of Clyde the Island of Bute is easily accessed from the mainland by ferry from either Wemyss Bay (30mins) or Colintraive, Cowal (5mins). The island was home to the Marquisses of Bute and one of the biggest attractions has to be Mount Stuart House and Gardens. The island has beautiful beaches, interesting walks including the Island Way, and is a fabulous area to cycle with quiet roads and gentle rolling countryside.
